5 Cold-Weather Accessories Editors Are Investing in This Season

5 Cold-Weather Accessories Editors Are Investing in This Season
3 min read

If you ask me, one of winter’s greatest styling pleasures lies in the accessories. As temperatures drop, layering becomes a necessity—which conveniently opens the door to an endless array of chic additions worth piling on. An oversized patterned scarf, a marled wool beanie, or a pair of plush, extravagant earmuffs can transform even the most understated look in an instant.

My favorite part of cold-weather dressing is the ability to experiment with bold add-ons—like slipping on a furry hat paired with coordinating mittens, a look that feels complete all on its own. And for those who venture to cold-weather destinations year-round—whether for skiing or weekend escapes in quaint, snowy towns—these pieces needn’t be reserved solely for the end-of-year months.

To pinpoint which accessories are truly worth investing in this season, I looked to recent street style moments, where I was drawn to a select few chic trends. There’s darling headwear to explore, clutch bags rendered in soft, lustrous materials, neck scarves styled to dress up classic button-downs, and statement footwear that pulls it all together.

If you’re ready to give your winter wardrobe a refresh, read on for the accessory trends I can’t get enough of.

Knitted Hoods and Balaclavas

Moritz Scholz

One thing became immediately clear on my prowl for the chicest winter extras: knitted hoods are having a moment—and it’s an utterly charming one. On the fall/winter 2025 runways at Paris Fashion Week, Dries Van Noten sent out a chunky chenille-knit hood seamlessly attached to a scarf, while in Milan, Marco Rambaldi showcased an intricate crochet version finished with contrasting trim. Naturally, I’m now plotting room for several in my winter rotation.

Chic Chunky Boots

Chunky boots are the easiest way to add instant height (and drama) to any ensemble. Wear them tucked beneath tailored pants, let them steal the show with skinny jeans (yes, they’re officially back), or style them with leggings for off-duty days. Go bold with an all-over shearling pair of Moon Boots, keep it chic and cozy with classic Uggs, or opt for something practical yet polished with a water-resistant Aquatalia style.

Glamorous Fur Hats

From trusty trapper hats that keep your ears perfectly toasty to classic pillbox styles that feel straight out of the ’60s, there’s no trend I’m more grateful for as temps plummet this season. Throw one on as you head out the door, and your look is elevated in an instant—warmth included. A true win-win!

Mini Bags and Clutches

TONYA MATYU

If you’ve ever struggled to keep a shoulder strap in place over a chunky winter coat, this is one trend worth embracing. Why battle a bag that won’t stay put when you can tuck it neatly under your arm and turn it into an ultra-chic style statement in the process?

Triangle Scarves and Neck Ties

Quite possibly the sweetest way to layer up this season, the triangle scarf offers an easy, versatile way to switch up your look. Slip it over the head and tie it under the chin, drape it effortlessly across the shoulders, or wear it as a belt-skirt hybrid—the styling possibilities are endless!
