7 Must-Have Autumn/Winter Fashion Accessories Everyone’s Raving About

Accessories are the real unsung heroes that can make or break a killer outfit, especially during autumn and winter. They can turn the most simplistic, basic silhouette into a fashion statement that can really elevate your look. Do you want to stand out from the crowd and stay on top of the trends? Have a read through some of the inspiration below to find some of the current trending must-haves to add to your autumn/winter wardrobe.

Oversized Glasses

Bold, oversized, face shielding sunglasses are well and truly back. Think big, elegant amour for your face that can hide you from the outside world. Celebrities are certainly backing the trend – and it’s easy to see why, with the additional benefit of an extra layer of privacy, being able to disappear behind the big lenses.

First sighted on the runway, more and more people are starting to wear oversized sunglasses this A/W and they’re transitioning into a real trend on the high street. The trend has reached retail stores, so you can now easily buy eyeglasses online with oversized frames, and hop on the trend too.

Triangle Scarves

We started seeing small, thinner scarves last autumn and winter, but the trend is definitely continuing and has transitioned into triangle scarves. This comes off the back of the layering trend we’ve witnessed all of this year, taking vests, skirts and even scarves to create an additional layer on top of trousers and/or skirts – and triangle scarves work perfectly for this.

In addition, we’re seeing more and more high street brands lean into this and sell triangle neckerchiefs in almost every colour you can imagine. They’re super easy to style too. Pop it on with a simple white tee, your favourite jumper or with a trench coat for a more elegant look. They balance adding an interesting element to your outfit whilst also being practical and keeping your neck cosy and warm.

Bag Charms

The bag charm trend is still very much going strong. I think we all love the additional personalisation we can make to our bags – anything from cute, cuddly toys to lipstick charms or something more sophisticated like shiny chains. There’s a lot of nostalgia for millennials, a trend that stems back to the early 2000s, which is still very much in the spotlight.

Not only does it look good, but it can also add an extra practical element. You can get lip balm, mirror keyrings or even attach a water bottle/thermos to a larger bag! It doesn’t seem that this trend is going anywhere anytime soon.

Resin Bangles

These super lightweight, tortoise shell and marbled designed cuffs are pretty much everywhere and it’s easy to see why. Seen all over the runways during the summer, resin bangles have transitioned their way into a high street trend for autumn. They add an extra element to any outfit without having to try too hard. Wear them on top of a layered, long-sleeve top and jeans, and you’ve got yourself an elevated, more interesting casual outfit.

You can get them in all kinds of colours, but for A/W muted, warm browns and creams are definitely what we’re seeing the most of. Plus, on top of all that, they’re very practical being easy to remove with no clasp – and they’re waterproof!

Crossbody Bags

We saw a couple of years ago the explosion of small nylon cross-body bags – originally, thanks to Uniqlo. Although the hype of that particular trend is slowly dying down, what isn’t going anywhere is larger, more detailed crossbody bags. With a boom in hiking-inspired, technical fashion like cargo’s and fleeces, crossbody bags with a utility look have become a sought-after piece this autumn.

With an emphasis on function and durability, the cross-body bag can make an outfit feel a bit more casual but still add interest to your overall look. There’s a huge variety of high-end and high street options so you can mould the trend into your own personal style.

Knitted Hoods

The knitted hood trend that’s taken the runway (and now high street) by storm taps into the craft, knitting, DIY aesthetic we’ve seen trending recently. It adds a distinct look and creates a focal point for your outfit – it’ll get heads looking and act as a conversation starter.

It’s definitely not for everyone, but it adds such a unique, eye-catching element to your outfits. Experiment with textures, colours and patterns to match your outfit’s aesthetic. It can be hard to make your outfit look interesting when it’s freezing out, but these hoods inject a bit of personality when peaking out from your puffer coat. They keep you warm but remain fashionable at the same time.

Statement Belts

Belts are one of the most overlooked elements of an outfit. You don’t realise how much they can add, even a simple one. However this A/W, people are learning into the statement belt trend, and there’s plenty of inspiration on how to style it with a cacophony of designers showcasing the trend on the runway. From large gold accents to swinging tassels to elaborate leather detailing, there’s a belt for every style you could hope to pull off.

There are also a ton of ways to style it too. Wear a belt over an oversized blazer to add more structure or with low-rise trousers, giving a more 2000s vibe to your outfit. If you think more is more when it comes to accessorising, try layering belts – they don’t have to be matching, but opt for one that’s a little bolder with other simpler, thinner ones so it’s not too over the top.

Trends can be very hit or miss depending on your own tastes. Accessories are a great way to mix it up and experiment with your style, whether it’s jewellery, sunglasses or bags. A lot of these trends listed above lean on the element of personalisation and self-expression like the bag charms or statement belts. Why not take some of the trends and must-have items listed above and incorporate them into your wardrobe?
