Fashion designer helping others make their best impressions

CINCINNATI (WXIX) – A local woman is helping to make sure that your first impression is your best impression.

If you can’t make it to a store selling Fenno Fashion, the owner Megan Fenno will make her way to you in her mobile boutique.

The designer specializes in making a variety of accessories from earrings to bracelets, necklaces, and handbags.

The Savannah College of Art and Design graduate says her love for making jewelry started in high school.

“When I was in high school, I worked at Michael’s Arts and Crafts store,” explains Fenno. “I was the events coordinator so I helped plan classes like crafty things. They needed a jewelry designer and we couldn’t find one. I looked everywhere. I put ads out. So I said, ‘You know what, I’m going to learn this and I’m going to teach it.’”

That inspired her to study fashion and accessory design.

After graduating and facing student loans without luck finding a job, she trusted her instinct to design her own path to launch Fenno Fashion in 2007.

“It was a rough go at first just because there wasn’t the social media that we have now,” explained Fenno. “There was no Instagram. There was no Twitter. There was no Facebook Business pages. It took six months to get a website built.”

So, she had to put in the work, making stops at events and festivals to build up her brand by word of mouth.

“I love that I can go where the people are and they don’t have to come to me,” Fenno says.

As clients fell in love with her unique designs, they kept coming back for more and helped establish the brand reputation she holds today.

“The one thing we love to do is create special collections,” says Fenno. “So for Christmas, we bring out a Christmas collection. A fall collection. Bengals is a huge one. Cincinnati sports teams so we like to keep it fun and fresh.”

Each day she steps into her office to fulfill orders and create new designs is a day that makes her proud that she made her dreams come true.

“I feel blessed to be able to do what I love every single day,” Fenno says. “I get to make my own hours and take vacations when I want. On the other side of that, I’ve never worked harder in my life than I have for myself. But it’s so rewarding. It’s worth it.”

She says one of the best parts of the business is seeing her creations bring others so much joy.

“I love when people come to markets or come in wearing the jewelry,” Fenno says. “They’re like, ‘This is my favorite necklace and I get the gifts from you for people.’ And they’re just so happy, so I love that aspect of the business.”

Fenno also teaches jewelry design to students to help inspire the next generation.
