As we hit mid-November, it’s time to get in the party mood, and this season we’re going monochrome. Start your search with a party top: Mango’s Y2K halterneck feels very Kiera Knightley in Bend It Like Beckham – just style with straight leg jeans and strappy heels – elsewhere, we have a Prada vintage sequin dress, The Row’s white kitten heels and Khaite’s boxy leather jacket – aka the perfect finishing touch.
Zara’s collaboration with stylist supremo, Harry Lambert, is essentially a ready-made cold-weather capsule. The jumpers, in particular, are well worth a look, and the colourful argyle knit is giving golfer chic. Our favourite kilt specialists, Le Kilt, have also launched on Matches this month, and the brand’s midi-length skirt will look good with all of your winter knits.
Get in the festive spirit with Gucci’s new 1955 horsebit bag in cracked silver leather, which will look just as good with cosy separates as party dresses. Speaking of cosy, we’re in the process of figuring out the best layering hacks for winter, and a colourful cardigan is at the top of our list, followed by Saint Laurent’s runway-approved XXL tartan scarf.
Grey is having a moment this season and Reiss’s wide-leg trousers really nail the brief, as does Issey Miyake’s lighter-than-air plissé blouse. Just make sure to balance out the seriousness with a fun accessory – be it Simone Rochas’s bow-adorned shoulder bag or & Other Stories’s cartoonish quilted snow boots.
Burgundy is one of those hues that feel particularly appealing in autumn, and luckily Bottega’s clever Intrecciato knitted vest comes in a particularly cosy shade of berry. Similarly, Adidas X Wales Bonner’s new season Samba drop comes in a chic new colour palette, including maroon and cream, leopard print and black. They won’t stay in stock for long, however.
There may be something a little “school uniform” about Gucci’s black shift dress, but we can guarantee that the comparisons stop there. Coming in a thick neoprene and adorned with the brand’s signature horsebit hardware, this minidress will be the envy of your colleagues when worn to work with heeled knee-highs and a roll-neck jumper this winer. In more casual territory, we have Agolde’s high-rise sculptural jeans – a year-round staple if we ever saw one.
Party season is almost here and, as always, Raey’s dance-floor offering is worth a look. Last year’s show-stopping mirror slip dress is back in 50 shades of pink and purple – just finish the look with JW Anderson’s charm sandals and a silver cuff necklace from All Blues’s collaboration with Peter Do. Bring on the bubbles.
The clutch is back in the spotlight this season and Alexander McQueen’s Peak bag is really excelling in this category. With its geometric silhouette and signature finger-hold detail, it’ll make a polished pairing to any winter party outfit. Cos has taken on a similar mood with its kitten court shoe, which is finished with sculptural metal hardware – a cute addition to your favourite jeans this season.
Ski season is almost here and we’re getting in the après mood with Moncler’s space-age puffer jacket, which will look just as good on the city street as it will on the slope. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll known that Phoebe Philo’s eponymous line dropped this week, and while most things have sold out, you can still nab the goggle-like Bombe sunglasses. Fashion with a capital F.
Everyone’s favourite Scandi It-girl brand, Ganni, is back with its second collaboration with outdoorsy favourites, Barbour. With its khaki colourway and quilted fabric, it’s a perfect one to add to your Glastonbury packing list (if you can secure yourself a ticket). Elsewhere, we have Chopova Lowena’s gingham ribbon-adorned cardigan, which will be cosy for autumn then suitably festive come Christmas.
Kick your winter style into gear with Loewe’s utilitarian jumpsuit and MM6 Maison Margiela’s collaboration with cult sneaker brand, Salomon. For a more delicate touch, meanwhile, consider Rabanne’s Noughties-inspired rose motif top and Cos’s sculptural earrings.
Who doesn’t love a vintage Fendi baguette? No one, that’s who. We just found the coolest logo-splattered iteration on Hardly Ever Worn It, and it’s perfect for both party and weekend attire. Elsewhere we have Joseph’s means-business tweed trousers, which are perfect for winter workwear – just add a colour-pop knit and ballet pumps.
Fortela is a brand to know this season, and we’re more than a little bit in love with the brand’s two-tone panelled shirt, which will offer just the right amount of Wild West styling to any look. The Row’s new-in Cyd leather pumps are also tugging at our heart strings – their dainty kitten heel and pointed toe look amazing with midi-length skirts.
&Daughter is fast becoming our favourite knitwear brand this season. Case in point: the Edith polo sweater in grey and forest green which manages to be both cosy and cool. Uniqlo’s much-beloved collaboration with JW Anderson is back for another season, and we are particularly impressed by the duffle jacket, which comes in beige and black.
Ganni X 66North is back for a fourth collection, and it’s looking better than ever. At the top of our list is the mid-length cargo skirt in khaki, which will look suitably cool with a grey knit and combat boots this winter. Speaking of collabs, Birkenstock has joined forces with Tekla, and the Nagoya suede clogs may just rival our trusty Bostons.
The moment we saw Saint Laurent’s sultry sheer cami on the runway, we knew we’d be adding it to basket. Whether you dress it down with jeans or keep it polished with a pencil skirt, this is one piece that is sure to turn heads. Ferragamo has also set our hearts racing this week with its new Hug bag in flame red. Swoon.
Arket menswear has become a fashion editor secret – particularly when it come to knitwear – and this season we’re eyeing an alpaca and merino crew neck knit in dusty blue. For a more statement-making winter look, meanwhile, Aeyde has delivered in the form of its snake-effect knee-high boots – an ideal addition to this season’s calf-length skirt.
Blazé Milano is an editor favourite for polished outerwear, and the Gliss velvet-trimmed jacket is the perfect blend of smart and casual. Just add tailored trousers and loafers. Elsewhere, the mercury might be dropping but Bottega Veneta’s yellow-tinted sunglasses are too good not to flag – a must-have for winter sun.
Sequins are no longer the reserve of evening activities – bring them into the daytime with Whistles’s powder blue top, which will make for a tempting pairing with both denim and midi-skirts alike. Meanwhile, Gucci has just dropped another horsebit bag to rival its cult clutch: with a roomy interior and Noughties-inspired hardware, it’s our dream work tote.
Cream-coloured tailoring is taking over from 2022’s beige basics, and while it might not be the most practical option, it is certainly the most chic. Cue: Jigsaw’s impeccably-shaped suit, which can be worn together or mixed-and-matched with more casual separates – think navy crew necks and sneakers or tracksuit bottoms and ballet pumps. Speaking of pumps, if you missed out on Le Monde Beryl’s sellout mesh flats, worry not because Reformation has just delivered a great alternative.
The underwear-as-outerwear trend is probably one of the trickier looks to recreate in your own wardrobe, however & Other Stories just made our lives a little easier with its black lace shirt. Dress down with R13’s khaki cargos for daytime, then swap in black tuxedo trousers for the evening. At the other end of the sartorial spectrum is Loewe’s collaboration with sneaker brand On Running, which is, perhaps, the ultimate meeting of form and function.
Alaïa’s Le Coeur bag is the gift that keeps on giving. For autumn/winter 2023, the brand has released the bag in a new high-shine metallic hue, and we can confirm that it looks even better IRL. On the subject of cult accessories, the Lanvin Noughties ballet flat – as seen on likes of Kate Moss and Angelina Jolie – is back and better than ever.
The Paddington Bear duffle is having a revival this season, and Mango’s camel-coloured style offers a contemporary spin on the classic outerwear piece. We recommend sizing up for Miu Miu-worthy coat kudos. Elsewhere, we’re styling up The Frankie Shop’s thick ribbed leggings with an hourglass blazer and knee-high boots for autumn-ready, equestrian cool.
